Fridays engagement!

This past Friday I had a photoshoot for an engagement session with Raquel and Ted. We had been putting it off for almost a month due to weather and such. The forcast had called for a sunny day on Friday, so we met up on the waterfront by the cherry blossoms, and what do you know, it still ended up raining. We still had a great time though! : )

I also took a few photos with my Holga while I was waiting for them to show up.

These are the last photos from the old place...time to start strolling around the new neighborhood to see whats out there!! : ) They can also be found in my store!

Learning to Edit...

Being mostly a film photographer, I have a very hard time doing any sort of editing to my photos. I am much more of a, you get what you get and if it didn't turn out you just take another photo and keep learning. Well with stock photography there are times that the image as you see it just isn't going to work, plus digital is much more finicky to work with than film. For all of my photos that get rejected on Stock photography, I have been editing them and re-submitting. Here is a sample of a photo that was once rejected and now selling away...

New Stock...

So I have been trying to have both my digital SLR and my holga on me at all times. It would be nice to also have my regular film camera as well, but I try to reserve that for little outings specifically for taking art photos. ANYWAYS....I was down in the Pearl District the other day and took some photos that have been accepted to my stock photography accounts, a few of which have already sold a few times over....

Catching up on Holga!

Okay, so this is the last time I'm going to even mention the fact that I was sick for about three weeks and use it as an excuse for not taking pictures, I SWEAT IT!!! It took me quite some time to get through my last roll on my Holga, but here it is finally. Needless to say, there are quite a few gaps in the photo-a-day project, but I am all ready to start over-shooting to make up for the lost time....

Stock Photography

It took me a long time to be okay with selling my work in the stock photography market, but for the last six months or so, I have been using my digital photography solely for stock. Things have been going pretty good, I have been slowly building my stock portfolio and learning how to photography for the stock market [ignore my silly little pun]. About a month ago I sold a photo I took in La Grande, Oregon for a whole whopping $5 [in stock photography, that's quite a bit seeing as most downloads on iStock you only receive around a $1 and shutterstock .25cents]. Well low and behold, last night I was flipping through the recent PDX Magazine and there was my photo. Exciting and sad all at once...yes my photo was printed on a two page spread for the 150th Birthday for Oregon article, but my name is no where to be seen. That's the life of stock unfortunately, so I completely understand...BUT...if you read the article, right next to my photo there it says [roughly]...Portlanders are not the kind of people to just see art in a gallery and buy it, Portlanders want to meet the artist, know who they are, why the did what they did for that particular piece of art and then they are happy to buy it. Well maybe its just me, but if they are going to say something like that, dont you think they should have put the photographers names of the few images they used for the article. I know it is not required with stock photos, but its not like the photographers names aren't right there with the image...oh well. Atleast I know its mine, and now all of you listening to my little rant!!

Speaking of stock photography, my friend Elizabeth and I were enjoying happy hour at Clyde Commons the other day and our food just looked so good with the lighting and everything, I had to photograph it for iStock. mmmm, makes me hungry all over again!
